Double-Lee Fun~ [Lee Min Ho & Lee Joon Gi]

  Oh Lee Min Ho! I've tried to quit you so many times but why is it that you keep coming back with more cheese than before but looking sooooo good with it!

    His new kdrama 'Faith' is not too bad with explaining a small part of Korean history with the twist that a cosmetic surgeon gets sent back in time to become the king's "High Doctor."

   The romance part of it is interesting but seeing as that this is a drama based on real life people that existed within the governments of old Korea, I am pretty glad there's a lot more explaination of who is who and what gangs existed to do the dark things for the king, against the king, and all other things of historical nature.
   There's definitely parts where I fast forward because after a few episodes, it's obvious which scenes are unnecssary or comic relief/fillers. Unfortunately, Lee Min Ho still hasn't improved his acting skills. Every reaction or emotional expression meant to evoke has been seen time and again from his previous City Hunter, Personal Taste, or Boys before Flowers. He's no movie actor, and maybe that might be the 'curse' for tv actors: that they aren't given ample time to hone their skills over a slower timeframe of a movie schedule, and are pressured to memorize, hit marks, and do fight sequences all within the span of the tv season. I also blame the poor storylines on the writers of the series.

   But like I always say about kdrama actors, they're really easy on the eyes, despite that keanu reeves-quality of their lines. Yet, I also have to say, that whenever Lee Minho is attached to a script, the production value (physical sense: sets, costumes, environment) of the whole series just gets upped which is always a plus since there's so much fluff in the asian drama business.
   "Faith" is up to its 14th episode out of a total 24 and so right now we're knee-deep in all kinds of bad and people getting double crossed so it'll be interesting to see how the writers weave out the rest of the storyline without some easy loophole.


   Besides Lee Min Ho's "Faith," also currently airing is "Arang and the Magistrate" which reintroduces us to the post-military duties' Lee Joon Gi.

   Now I am not sure but Lee Joon Gi seems to look a bit different this time around. I am afraid to jump to the conclusion of a new nose job but I wouldn't be surprised if he got one since finishing his military duties. Maybe he got punched in the nose? Fell on his face? Ran into a stick?

  Nonetheless, I have yet to see the first episode of "Arang" but it seems like a thriller/mystery as to who did what, who killed who, and with the involvement of the heroine being a dead ghost, I find myself hopeful as to the small amount of romantic cheese that might be. I mean really, it's hard to do much with a ghost.

   However, I am very glad Lee Joon Gi is back on the radar, which also means whatever script he's attached to, will also get a high production value, perhaps more so than Min Ho since Joon Gi has been around longer in the business. Which also makes me wonder when Min Ho's military call might come up...

Update!

or lack thereof... ugh sorry for no updates!
But between work, studies, and gaming, I can easily forget to write a simple post on anything shiny I find.

Recently got the opportunity to check out a movie! IKR! b/c tickets these days are $5,000 not including the popcorn and coke. Yeah, the title says it all: Magic Mike! A force not to be reckoned with. I have waiiited ALLLL my life for this.

So to the review rather than my heavy panting induced biased opinion on Channing Tatum's fat-less pecs and ass - The movie is yes, a story about a male stripper and his buddy strippers and how he takes a college drop-out and gives him the career of a lifetime. However, besides all the body rolling, stage thrusting, and lifting of full-bodied women, director Steven Soderbergh is smart enough to show the male camaraderie as we had seen in Ocean's Eleven so that the straighter counterpart of the male sex could feel included in the fun. The film does show a darker side to the whole male stripper lifestyle but then again, that's to be expected. I mean, when you think about it, it doesn't seem any more different than the female stripper's lifestyle.

And if it wasn't for Gurkie for cluing me in that Joe Manganiello (who played "Big Dick Richie"/ or Alcide from True Blood) and Matt Bomer both graduated from CMU, I wouldn't have had to /facepalm HUGELY after the party ended. Funnily enough, Matt Bomer is also gay in real life. I KNEW he was too good looking for the role. I mean, cmu has also produced Zachary Quinto, which I say would have been an even geekier addition to the stripper staff had he been hired. But really, when you think about the forty grand per year kids pay to get an engineering degree, and graduate jobless, with the possibility of janitor at Microsoft, and yet Joe and Matt make wayyyy more than all those kids combined, you really do think twice about whether these days a good education is worth it in this economy.

Go out there and watch Magic Mike if you want to see a lot of body rolling, thrusting, handsome men. Girl's night out or absolutely fabulous gay entourage, this is a good stop by in the night before the pick me ups. If you're straight, take a girl to see this, tolerate that you're just not as hot as them, but you'll be rewarded later in the night; I swear this movie will land at least a bj for anyone in an awkward relationship. And finally, just go see it just to see it. Because it's 2012, and being objectified as a man is sooo 5 minutes ago.

Vampire Prosecutor Season 1 End

Well back to the wonderful world of Kdrama!

I think I've just about seen one of the best asian dramas in all the years of my experience in watching dramas, and I kid you not, though the title may seem really odd and stupid, the storytelling and characters are not your usual suspects.

Of course, last fall when Vampire Prosecutor was about to air for the winter season drama of 2011, I would have watched it anyways to see what kind of rules and twists they would use for 'yet another vampire story' during this time and age of vampires everywhere.... But the first episode was pretty impressive, not on the story alone but directorial view and style and acting. There wasn't any kind of hint of 'paranormal romance saga' - in fact, I'd say it was a pretty beefy episode that really almost had no inkling of vamp-ness to it. Well, when i think about it, the pilot was all about setting up the story really and being a vampire had no real drive to the story (during the pilot, but is revealed later on).

The biggest thing for me was that the guy who actually was the vampire, the prosecutor, wasn't all that perfectly handsome or bishi as usual like most asian actors. He was a totally normal looking guy, no sharp features, but he nailed his part so perfectly, coming off as a really perfect stoic, and lonesome man (dead man?) in the world of unjust law. Him being a vampire was only a side thought, and didnt' take away from the story at all.

I dont want to spoil too much of the season but another main attraction of the drama was that there was almost little to none romantic story in the drama. There was slight tension perhaps, between the vampire prosecutor and his partner prosecutor, the human female, but it really only starts to build up near the end of the season, and even then, they don't share more than a handshake as I guess, they're both pretty tough prosecutors and their jobs are more important than their social lives. Good going writers!

I read in another blog about this drama was that this show was created from an independent network of writers and channel. Goes to show that in this economy, quality is really better than spending the big bucks and hiring the famous actors to make an ostentatious show with no storyline and awful plot drivers and same old fashioned romantic trios.

To top it off, the whole season of Vampire Prosecutor was so good and got such great ratings and reviews that a season 2 is being considered, or perhaps it's already being worked on! If so, I can't wait! And if you're curious, you can watch the whole first season at http://www.dramacrazy.net/

FFXIV patch 1.20

December has come too soon, as well as this holiday season! And in my area, it's still warm on some days, haven't seen a hint of snow which makes me kind of sad. But for the gaming world, I'm glad patch 1.20 has been released for FFXIV. For a long time, there was a huge lull as indicated by this blog as well, of not really much to do within FFXIV. But with the coming of 1.20, there were so many additions to content, quests, and fights, I think Square Enix did a pretty good job of wrapping up for the holidays before all their workers take a break from fixing this game.

Also, with the announcement of SE going to charge for the game starting January 6th, 2012, this was good timing to have added such a juicy patch for many to try out beforehand. Well, at the same time, I do hope the billing will help filter out and get rid of trolls and idiots from the game.

The moogle prime fight is pretty amazing. Haven't beaten it yet but it's much more fun than ifrit which tends to be just a running and timing fight. I don't care much for ifrit since the weapons are too ugly for me in my opinion but I really want to try to get all the moogle weapons, or at least the top few that I like, namely for conjurer, archer, and maybe even pugilist though a lot of people seem to think the moogles sticking out at the end of the fists are overboard designs.

I like them just cuz they're simply goofy and overboard. I don't think i'd ever really fight with these except for random exp or stronghold parties. I dont know, but I think they are cute and ridiculous.

I can't wait for mog houses/estates to come. I hear perhaps in the next patch (in February) they will be added but I can't be sure. I guess it's only rumors for now but since people will start to be paying for the game, they better get more worthwhile stuff coming out soon.
